An awareness-focused information design project exploring how video games affect teenagers. Through research and data visualization, I designed a landing-page infographic that presents gaming habits, benefits, and potential concerns in a clear and engaging way.

The design takes inspiration from Valorant to create a visual style that appeals to a younger audience.

Project Background

I initially planned to create a visualization of my own Valorant gameplay statistics. After receiving feedback, I shifted toward a topic with a broader purpose: exploring the effects of video games on teenagers.

Rather than designing a full website, I developed a long-form landing page that could also be presented as an infographic or printed poster.

Research & Insights

I researched gaming habits among teenagers aged 12 to 18 in the United States, looking at how frequently they play, why they play, and how gaming affects their everyday lives.

The research covered both positive and negative experiences, including problem-solving, social connections, sleep, and online harassment. Key findings included:

  • 85% of U.S. teens play video games, with 41% playing daily.
  • More than half of teens report that gaming has improved their problem-solving skills.
  • 41% say gaming has negatively affected their sleep.
  • 80% of teens view harassment in video games as a problem.

Process Work

I explored different ways of presenting the research through charts and visual comparisons. I worked with bar charts, diverging bar charts, and other visual formats to make the data easier to compare.

I also tested a gaming-inspired visual direction, using Valorant's typography and colours to connect the design to its intended audience.

Final Design

The finished landing page is organized into six sections: Who, What, When, Where, Why and How.

The final design combines gaming-inspired visuals with data visualization to make research more engaging for a teenage audience.

This project helped me understand how visual design can make complex information easier to communicate while still considering the needs and interests of the intended audience.
